In one line: your photos stay on your iPhone and we never see them. There's no account, and we only receive something from you when you choose to message us.
Who we are
Globespot is made by Nthfinite Labs LLC ("we"). There's no account to create. Apart from a small check when the app opens (see below), nothing is sent to us unless you message us.
What the app reads on your iPhone
- Your photo library, with your permission. Globespot reads each photo's location and date. It also looks at the picture on your iPhone (using Apple's built-in image recognition) to sort it into groups like beaches or cities, and to spot photos with people in them.
- What it learns (the place names, dates and groups) is saved in the app's own storage on your iPhone. It's shared only with Globespot's own Lock Screen widget.
What leaves your iPhone, and where it goes
Your photos are never uploaded, but three things do reach Apple:
- Place names. To turn a photo's coordinates into a name like "Kyoto, Japan", Globespot asks Apple's location service. Apple receives the coordinates, not the photo. Nearby photos share one lookup, so each area is only looked up once.
- Maps. When you open the map of a spot, the map is drawn by Apple Maps.
- iCloud Photos. If some of your photos are only stored in iCloud, Globespot asks Apple for a small copy, and only on Wi-Fi.
Apple handles this under Apple's privacy policy. We never receive any of it.
Contacting us
If you message us, from the Support page on this website or from Settings → Contact us in the app, we keep what you write, our replies, and the device details you give us (the app adds your iPhone model, iOS version and Globespot version for you). An email address is optional on the website and never asked for in the app. Conversations are stored on our own support system and you see our replies on your private conversation page or in the app. You can also rate our reply with a thumbs up or down and an optional note. To delete a conversation from the app, open it and choose Delete this conversation: that erases your words and screenshots from our system. For a conversation started on this website, ask us in it and we'll delete it.
Shake to report a problem. If you shake your iPhone in Globespot and send a report, it includes a screenshot of the screen you were on, unless you remove it before sending. That screenshot can show one of your photos and where it was taken. You see it before anything is sent, and you can take it out. We use it only to fix the problem, and you can ask us to delete it.
The check when the app opens
When Globespot opens, it asks our server for the latest help articles and whether your version of the app still works. That request says it's Globespot asking and nothing about you, and our server keeps no record of it, not even your internet (IP) address. Our server sits behind Cloudflare, which carries this check and any messages you send us.
What we don't do
- No ads in the app, and nothing sold to anyone. This website's optional cookies are explained below, under This website.
- No payment details, ever: Globespot is free to use, and if you choose to buy Globespot Plus, Apple handles the payment through the App Store. We never see your card details or your name.
Crash reports
If the app crashes, a crash report is saved on your iPhone, in the Files app under Globespot. It stays there unless you choose to send it to us. Separately, if you've turned on "Share with App Developers" in your iPhone's Settings, Apple may share anonymous crash data with us. You can turn that off at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
Deleting your data
Delete the Globespot app and everything it saved on your iPhone goes with it. Your photos themselves are never changed or deleted by Globespot. To stop it reading your photos without deleting it, go to Settings → Globespot → Photos.
Children
Globespot never asks anyone's age and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from children. The only things it sends us are messages and reports that someone chooses to send.
This website
When you first visit, we ask before using any cookies. Nothing below runs until you choose: Reject all turns everything off, Accept all turns it all on, and Choose lets you pick Analytics and Marketing separately. You can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page; switching something off deletes its cookies from this site.
If you say yes, these companies receive information about your visit, such as the pages you open, your browser and device, and your internet (IP) address:
- Google Analytics, run by Google: how people use the site (pages visited, clicks, scrolling) and, if you allow marketing, whether a visit came from one of our Google ads.
- Microsoft Clarity, run by Microsoft: how people use the site, including recordings of clicks, scrolling and mouse movement on our pages (it hides anything you type).
- Meta Pixel, run by Meta (Facebook and Instagram): whether a visit came from one of our ads on Facebook or Instagram, so we can see which ads work.
Google Analytics also runs in a limited mode before you choose: it sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, and Google uses those signals only to estimate overall visitor numbers.
We keep a record of the choice you made (a random ID made by your browser, what you chose and when, the page, and your browser type, but not your IP address) so we can show we asked. Your choice is remembered in your browser for 12 months, then we ask again.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
